TARGETING THE LIGHT – Marion Llewellyn

(Long poem by Sharon Thesen)

June 11 – July 4, 2009

Marion Llewellyn explores the tension between our positive and negative experiences in her new series of abstract paintings, ”Targeting Light Sources.”  The freedom in her painting contrasts with the detail in her drawing and creates a tension similar to what we face in the good and bad moments of life.  Joining Llewellyn on opening night will be poet, Sharon Thesen with a long caption poem written to complement Marion’s paintings.  Thesen is the author of eight books of poetry, winner of the Pat Lowther Memorial Award and was shortlisted for the Governor General’s Award.   Bellevue Gallery will host an opening on June 11th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

THIS BRIEF DANCE – Galen Felde

February 12 – Extended to March 21, 2009

Galen Felde presents ”This Brief Dance” in her continuing series involving issues of empathy, impermanence and our awkward relationship with origins, adaptation and alteration of the landscape. Boughs, branches and leaves, vibrating wings, wire, transformers… all are key elements magnified, layered, distorted and sculpted to form the substructure of Galen’s fictional but strangely familiar landscapes. Canvases combine acrylic texturing and under-painting with feathered brushwork and numerous transparent washes on wood panel.
