Small Clocks, Color Studies and Histories of the Square in Landscape

The Timepiece Series is an ongoing body of mixed-media paintings on paper in which I explore concepts of space and time. The format of each painting is based on a literal timepiece. A small square, symbolizing the hands of a clock, rotates the outer perimeter of a larger square, or ”clock face”. At the beginning of each painting, I set the ”hands” of the timepiece to document real time.

The Timepiece format has enabled me to experiment with countless color relationships, new media, and unusual ways of working with traditional materials. Out of my work with Timepieces, I have developed courses for Parsons School of Design and the Berlin University of the Arts, as well as numerous workshops exploring new and innovative media.

Timepieces range in size from four inches to six feet. The works represented in this presentation were created in mixed materials on 29.5” x 41.5” Rives BFK.

Over fifty Timepieces may be found in corporate and public collections.
