Nadine Stefan is mixed media artist, combining a variety of mediums and materials into her work. Natural elements such as tree branches, twigs, leaves and grass exist in some form throughout the three separate bodies of work that have been her creative manifest; each a continuous series in their own right. They have served as tools through which to express individual perspectives on a theme that has driven her work through most of my career. Nadine lives and works in New Denver, British Columbia, Canada. Much of the inspiration for her artwork is derived from the natural environment and resource materials for her work can be found just outside her studio door. In each creation she achieves a measure of resolution in the way of a convergence, a renewal, transition or transformation and marry the forces at play, achieving a level of accordance within the work. Each series is a testament to the natural continuum and the way in which it defines us in body and spirit.

Flow Series

This series relates to themes concerning the pathways of change and growth. Within these modulations, tree branches ripple through windows of space simulating the flow of life passing through time and space. Each work is an assemblage of layers on a curved frame to facilitate various dimensions of this concept.

Transitions Series

This series utilizes pictorial space as a platform for psychological states. By fusing foreground and background, light and dark, the visible and the invisible, this group of work explores the passage between the inner life and outer reality. Each painting invites various levels of awareness associated with a singular moment.

Touch Series

The series explores the sensory connection between body and spirit – giving shape to the complexity of emotions associated with being. Materials and techniques are chosen to best emulate something tactile and also intangible in each work. By introducing relief components projecting under the canvas, and combining color, shape and line, each work contains a complexity of sensations. The objective of this series is to embody the essence of ‘humaness’ and what lies underneath the surface, hidden from view.
